There are many STEM kits that are on the market which cost, and are worth much more, than $20. Did the Amazon Toy Club just drive down the prices in the STEM kit market? Will parents and kids get hooked on the STEM club and graduate to spending more dollars on higher end products? Or did Amazon accidentally stifle innovation and close down the market for these innovative products? We have to assume Amazon is in the business of making money and does not want to sell kits that cost more than $20. ![]() Amazon can control the cost of it’s exclusive items. Looking at the details provided, Amazon is able to offer a modest $20 per month price point by offering only Amazon exclusive items. That makes sense. Amazon’s marketing and brand power can drive more interest in STEM than any other company. There is the likelihood that Amazon STEM Club can expand the number of kids exposed to STEM. We might look at kids ten years down the road giving credit for engineering degrees to Amazon. At the very least, STEM is all over the news today as a result of Amazon’s announcement. But let’s look at the announcement positively. The STEM Club sounds wonderful for parents, but not so wonderful if you are the CEO of a STEM kit company that isn’t in the STEM Club. Did Amazon commoditize the market for STEM kits? Did Amazon step on innovation? Did Amazon’s Announcement Turn STEM Toys into a Commodity?Īmazon announced that they have opened STEM Club Toy Subscriptions that for $20 per month will provide, each month, an age appropriate STEM toy for your child. They STEM Club is open for 3-4 year olds, 5-7 year olds, and 8-13 year olds.

There is the regular subscription and offers for educational institutions, but it doesn’t give you access to special features (Mindomo has dedicated features and templates for each account type to support its use cases). XMind has no option of lifetime purchase, it only gives you the option to buy it for 6 months or a year. There are custom offers for institutions, universities, etc. You can extend the updates and support for another year for 36€. The lifetime option gives access forever to that version and one year of updates and support. With Mindomo you can choose an annual/6-months subscription or a lifetime unique purchase. Both tools offer free mind map software options and paid ones. The other 6 subscription plans are dedicated to specific uses and they come with dedicated features and templates. On the online platform, XMind has only one cloud that has no cloud version, while Mindomo has 7 options including a completely free one. Mindomo and XMind have different types of plans. In Mindomo you can’t share diagrams directly from the Desktop app, you have to sync them with the cloud so you can further share them from the web version. In addition, XMind allows you to share your diagrams directly via the Desktop app: with a link, make them public on the XMind Gallery, share on social media, blog, Evernote, and Biggerplate. In Mindomo you can only encrypt diagrams with a password from the online version (you still need to add the password when you open the diagram from the Desktop app). On the other hand, XMind allows you to encrypt your local diagrams with a password from the Desktop app. This real-time collaboration works between users only when they have an internet connection and if the diagram is synced with the cloud. The Mindomo Desktop app comes with great benefits that XMind hasn’t: you can collaborate in real-time with other Mindomo users that are connected from their Desktop app or from the online version. The two Desktop apps have advantages and disadvantages when it comes to collaboration. ![]() In other words, you are not able to customize it as you want. Moreover, the Pitch mode allows you only to create an automated presentation. But there are no special templates designed by the XMind team on use cases categories, as Mindomo has. XMind users have access to the public library of diagrams, and they can copy and edit another user’s diagrams. The lack of mind map templates is also a huge drawback. Unfortunately, there’s no cloud to sync, which makes it hard to copy your diagrams on other devices. The biggest disadvantage of Xmind is that it doesn’t support synchronization. ![]() However, Mindomo has more advantages over XMind: online-offline synchronization with only one click, templates, a customizable presenter mode, Gantt chart view, full history of changes, more filtering options, and an Auto Night mode (it changes depending on the theme color you’re using on a diagram). XMind has some advantages over Mindomo: it has more printing formats and more visualization options. Taking a look at the above table helps you choose what is more important for you when you customize your diagrams.Ĭomparing the Desktop apps features of XMind and Mindomo we see noticeable differences. Mindomo has a bigger variety of map styling options overall. Mindomo has more options for line formats, topic styles, it has anchor point options, customizable weight, and freely resize topics’ width and height by dragging and dropping them, while XMind has customizable text on boundaries, etc. It’s 3 in 1, and you can have the same effect with only one click. Mindomo has the “Auto balance map option” that contains all modifications of these 3 features in only one option. For instance, the “Auto balance map”, “Compact map” or “Branch free-position” are 3 different options at XMind. It gives the impression that it has extra features. ![]() XMind has some features that Mindomo also has, divided into more different ones. ![]() Both tools offer a big variety of customization options, it depends on what is more important for you.įor example, XMind has customizable text on boundaries, and Mindomo doesn’t have it. Mindomo has some map styling options that XMind doesn’t have and vice versa. However, at XMind, there are some features that are available only on the Desktop app, such as topic padding, more fonts on the app, Theme Editor. There are no differences between the Desktop app and the online version of Mindomo when it comes to map styling features. ![]() Reusability It’s best to write code that’s highly reusable. Here are five frequently used measures of code quality to consider when developers ask, how do I check my Python code? In general, however, the quality of code relates to how closely it follows commonly accepted coding standards and best practices. Python code quality is a subjective term, and means something different to every development team. Blocking a system by overloading parts of it renders the system useless and insecure. Availability A secure system also needs to be able to be used in due time. Transactions succeed when all sub-transactions succeed, and the stored data does not contradict each other. Integrity Secure software systems make sure that data and processes are not tempered with, destroyed, or altered. That includes malicious external actors as well as unauthorized internal stakeholders. Confidentiality Secure software systems do not disclose information to parties that are not allowed to receive it. The best practice is to accept the work of the open source community by scanning and updating software dependencies in your project using scanners like Snyk Open Source - while doing your part by scanning and fixing your code using Snyk Code. But the remaining 10 to 20% is critical: this code reflects your personal IP, and there is no open source community helping you keep it secure. Today, applications consist of 80 to 90% open source dependencies. ![]() The CIA triad is often used as a model for secure systems, and to identify possible vulnerabilities and fixes. Python code security can be described using the CIA triad - confidentiality, integrity, and availability. This should include the precise source of the issue, and any known publicly available fixes for both security flaws and code anti-patterns. An effective code checker solution will identify flaws, while also giving developers the insights they need to remediate them. Finally, detecting Python code security issues is only half the battle. This type of data-driven security works in tandem with threat intelligence to improve the overall security posture of your organization. ![]() The Python code checker you use should also leverage a comprehensive vulnerability database to identify security issues at the code level, as well as known vulnerabilities introduced via open source dependencies.Vulnerability databases help developers stay on top of the latest security exploits as they’re discovered, without spending endless hours researching the current cyber threat landscape. STRUCTURAL: Determines whether there are inconsistencies with implementing language-specific best practices and cryptographic techniques. DATA FLOW: Tracks the flow of data from insecure sources to ensure it’s cleansed before consumption by the Python application. SEMANTIC: Examines code contextually to estimate what the developer intended, and check whether the code syntax differs. The most common types of SAST security analysis are: CONFIGURATION: Ensures that application configuration files are following security best practices and policies. A SAST tool also needs to take a comprehensive approach for scanning source code, and be able to combine with linters to check code syntax and style. When it comes to static application security testing (SAST) with a Python code checker, it’s important to choose a developer-first tool that integrates into developer workflows and produces minimal false positives in scan results. More maintainable code can also improve the customer experience because there are fewer bugs and technical debt to deal with in the future. ![]() This can make a significant impact on the quality and security of Python code that developers write going forward. Integrating a Python code checker into the existing developer workflow is a great way to fix code issues earlier, while also helping developers learn about best practices. ![]() Lohan served as the executive producer on the miniseries Lindsay in 2014 and both starred and produced 2019’s Lindsay Lohan’s Beach Club. The interesting thing about is that this service gives you exactly what you need and doesn’t try to wow you with trivia information like whether the car in question has or doesn’t have a sunroof. So, free VIN decoders are used when the condition or mileage is not the first concern, or it is obvious. The only reliable information free VIN decoders can provide is data regarding the car itself – model year, engine option, trim, version, colors, and so on. They can be very useful, but you have to know when and for what to use them. However, this doesn’t mean that there is no place for free VIN decoder sites. Paid VIN decoders compete in delivering accurate data regarding the condition of the vehicle, which is something free VIN decoders cannot do. When you pay for the VIN search, you want to get as much as possible information regarding the actual mileage, the number of owners, possible recalls, title, maintenance records, insurance claims, and so on. Although both types use the same sources (in most cases, anyway), the information that they display is not the same. AggregateĪggregate swimming pool finishes have been growing in popularity over the last few decades. Pro tip: To add a little fun and flair to this kind of pool finish, consider adding some pool mosaics before the plastering. ![]() ![]() This surface especially accommodates algae, which means the plaster requires surface maintenance weekly as well as acid washing every three to five years.Īnd while plaster is the least expensive interior surface, it also has the shortest life span – something like five to 10 years. It also exhibits stains more often than the other surfaces due to it being more porous in nature. On the down side, plaster does require a bit more maintenance and care than other surfaces if you want it to last as long as possible. So a plaster interior surface can play into your overall design scheme. Plaster pool finishes can also be dyed different colors. Many people feel that plaster has a classy, simple look that is a great surface for your first pool or if you are on a budget. This can cause your pool water to appear bright, clean and light blue. This surface is hard, yet smooth and appears white in color. Plaster is one of the most used pool finishes and has been around since the 1960s. While there are nearly 200 proprietary mixes that have special sounding names, in reality, plaster is basically Portland cement and sand mixed together then troweled into the pool. Pool plaster is a ¾ inch layer of dense mortar applied to the entire interior surface of a concrete pool. But before you write off glass mosaic tile as an interior finish, read on regarding the details of each kind of concrete pool finish: Plaster The most expensive and luxurious interior surface is glass tile, which may cost from $30 to $50 per foot including installation. Aggregate material on the other hand is a little more expensive at $4.75 to $5 per foot. But you can figure a plaster finish at around $3.60 to $4 per foot. Typically northern states are more expensive than southern ones such as Florida. In general, the cost of resurfacing a concrete pool depends on your region of the country, the size of the pool, and the material you choose. The three main options for a concrete pool finish are plaster, aggregates or tile.įor many, cost is the overriding factor in determining the type of interior surface. ![]() Whether you’re building a new swimming pool or refurbishing an old one, a lot of thought should go into your choice of interior surface finish. The way you resolve this issue is to add an interior surface, which has an enhanced resistance to water permeation – all the while keeping in mind that the surface of your pool can change your pool’s fundamental look. If you were to build a concrete swimming pool entirely of concrete it probably would leak a lot of water. |
